The President and the Prime Minister mourn the death of the former Finance Minister

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their condolences over the death of former finance minister and Awami League advisory council member Abul Maal Abdul Muhith.

In a condolence message, the President said that Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has an important role to play in building a strong foundation of the country's economy during his tenure as Finance Minister.


People will respectfully remember his contribution to the progress of building a developed and prosperous Bangladesh.


In his sympathy message, the Prime Minister petitioned God for the absolution of his spirit and passed his most profound sympathies on to the deprived relatives.


Earlier, he died at the United Hospital in the capital on Friday (April 29) at around 1am. He was 88 years of age at the hour of his demise.


The first janaza will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday (April 30) at Gulshan Azad Mosque and the second janaza will be held at 11:30 am at Sangsad Plaza.


His body will be taken to the Shaheed Minar at 12 noon to pay homage to people of all walks of life. Then the body will be taken to Sylhet for burial.


Former finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was infected with the coronavirus in July last year. At that time he was treated at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. The former finance minister was also undergoing treatment at Green Life Hospital in Dhaka.


Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was brought into the world on 25 January 1934 in Sylhet. As the Finance Minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith presented 12 budgets, 10 of which were during the Awami League government.


He is a member of the advisory committee of the Awami League. His younger brother won the last election from the seat he left. AK Abdul Momen. After that AK Abdul Momen became the Foreign Minister of the country.
