Shiite mosque blast kills 25 in Afghanistan

A powerful blast ripped through a Shi'ite mosque in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif. It killed at least 25 people. News from Al Jazeera.


Jabihullah Nurani, head of Balkh's information and culture department, told AFP that at least 25 people had been initially killed.


Mazar-e-Sharif central hospital chief said. At least 10 worshipers were killed and at least 40 others were injured in the blast, Gaosuddin Anwari told the Associated Press. The victims are being taken to the hospital by ambulance and private vehicle.


The militant group ISKP has claimed responsibility for the attack.


A bomb blast near the Afghan city of Kunduz has killed at least four people and injured 18 others. Obaidullah Abedi, a spokesman for the provincial police, said the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a car carrying mechanics working for a Taliban military unit.


The Afghan capital, Kabul, was rocked by a bomb blast on Thursday. Two children were seriously injured in a roadside bomb blast. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a Shi'ite mosque in the western part of the city, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said in a tweet.
