Messi's favorite goal artwork sold, how much did it fetch at auction?

A couple of months ago, Lionel Messi chose his best goal of his professional career. Then, with the help of AI technology, Turkish-American artist Refik Anadol transformed it into a digital work of art. The artwork, titled 'A Goal in Life', was auctioned on July 12 and sold for a hefty sum 10 days later.

According to a report in 'The Athletic' on Tuesday (July 22), a painting of Messi's goal was sold at an auction by the British auction house 'Christie's' for 1.87 million dollars. In Bangladeshi currency, this is approximately 227.9 million taka.

However, it was not disclosed who or what institution bought the painting. The money from the sale, of course, doesn't go into the pockets of Messi or the artist. It was previously known that the money will be used for charity. The money from the sale of the painting will be donated to the Inter Miami Foundation. The foundation spends money on various charitable causes. This includes various programs in partnership with UNICEF to promote education in Argentina, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Haiti.

"After the auction, curator Jimena Caminos said that Messi's favorite goal will be turned into a piece of art that will both entertain many people and help improve the education system in Latin America and the Caribbean. "

Earlier in May, Messi chose his best goal from the more than 850 goals he scored in his professional career. At that time, in an interview, the Argentine star said that his favorite was the header against Manchester United in the 2009 UEFA Champions League final.

At the time, he said, "I may have scored many more beautiful and valuable goals, and they were important. But that header he scored in the Champions League final against United is still my favorite goal."

After choosing Messi's goal, artist Anadol spent a few weeks making a three-dimensional version of the goal using different tools and AI technology. The artwork was exhibited at Christie's 10th Art + Tech conference in their New York branch from July 12. Sebastian Sanchez, the auction house's digital sales manager, said that the price of this artwork started to rise from $ 1.5 million. Finally, after 10 days, it was sold for $ 1.87 million.
